Thornton Austen is a former political copy writer and avid treasure hunter who lives with his wife, daughter, and an ill-tempered Basset hound on Swamp Music farm, deep in Southern Arkansas. There he enjoys playing his fiddle on the front porch while contemplating the deeper mysteries of life at the end of the power line.
The Long Spill
Thornton Austen grew up in the small farm community of Hermitage, Arkansas. After a stretch in the army where he served in his battalion intel section, he studied both soil and political science at the University of Arkansas. After college, Austen wandered through many jobs from Ag research to mining to fabric spreading in a sweatshop. He even stuffed toilet paper into those tight little plastic bags. Eventually, he settled into a successful career as a political copywriter. He authored numerous articles and two successful books before the belligerent political climate of the day caused him to reconsider the field.Thornton Austen has retired to Swamp Music farm on Colvin’s Island deep in Southern Arkansas and lives with his wife, daughter, and an ill-tempered Basset hound. There he writes fiction under his pseudonym, is an avid treasure hunter, and enjoys playing his fiddle on the front porch while contemplating the deeper mysteries of life at the end of the power line.
